Most adults dream of someday having a child and raising them into adulthood. It’s understandable- a small part of the American Dream, a chance to experience parenthood, an unconditional love that will last forever. Kids are a wonderful joy to the world, but I never want any of my own.
Most people might see this as selfish, and if that’s the case, then so be it. However, hear me out:
Every day the news displays a tragedy of some sort or another. Innocent people are dying, parents are afraid to send their kids to school, terrorism and hate are around every corner. Every single day chaos emerges from somewhere around the world. It’s heartbreaking.
I never want to raise a child in the world today.
I never want to hear the news that my child has been killed by a man with a gun. I never want to hear that my child was beaten to death while she was supposed to be getting an education. I never want to hear that my child cannot be found because their location has turned into a crime scene.
It’s a sad day in American history when people cannot do daily activities in fear for their lives. If this doesn’t anger you, you are a part of the problem.
Forgive me if I come off as selfish, or rude, or silly- but I never want to have kids and raise them in today’s society. That is not my American Dream.
If you choose to have a child, I support you and wish you the best, as you are much more brave than I ever could be. And with that, I wish you luck.
